As we navigate uncertain times, the world of Payments continues to defy the headwinds; ever more mega-mergers, PE’s driving Innovation, and expansion into emerging markets has never been so strong…
But as we meet senior leaders, the regional heads responsible for driving the changes call out the disconnect between their Boards/Investors and the realities of aligning multiple business streams under one cohesive organisation. The appetite to roll-up sensible strategic partners or taking listed entities private for transformation, needs to be matched by greater scrutiny in understanding the potential, and short-comings of the People impact in businesses being smashed together.
The latent, unrealised potential of so many deals over the last 10 years should point towards huge potential upsides for investors and the careers of ambitious professionals. However, until greater due diligence is applied to the People dimension being acquired in North American and European deals, my fear is we will continue to witness the exodus of next generation Talent to emerging markets, and worse still out of Payments, just when it is becoming the Tech play it has aspired to be for so many years…
Payments has come of age in terms of being an identifiable industry in which to build a career, but we still need to build the connection between Investors and the nurturing of future Talent, through more business-aligned Human Resource teams. Payments also needs Tech-aligned performance remuneration and greater thought given to retaining virtually driven teams to build pride and tenure with the organisations they once joined with such ambition.
Greenings is working with a small but growing community of clients, helping them assess pre and post-acquisition teams, how they bench to the industry and where they will be best deployed for future growth of the business and fulfilment of their careers. We want to speak with clients determined to harness the real power of Talent within Payments..!

Payments & FinTech Regatta Friday 9th May

Greenings hosted a fantastic Payments & FinTech Regatta on 9th May with glorious sunshine, wonderful teams (Cardstream, Cashflows, Castles Technology, Fep Pay, Friends of Greenings, Global Payments Inc., Osborne Clarke and Tribe Payments), a delicious BBQ lunch at the Royal Ocean Racing Club Cowes and a well-deserved win by newcomers Castles Technology.

Our pre-regatta party the evening before at Balmer Lawn Hotel was a great way for teams to network ahead of the event.

This was our 12th annual regatta, and on the day we were delighted to announce the collaboration between Adam Sharpe, CEO Cardstream, Stephen Poole, MD Fep-Pay and Andrew Greening, CEO Greenings, to deliver a Visitor Application and Payments Platform, for the 2026 season of sailing and power regattas being held at Cowes. This collaboration also hopes to involve local island payment firms, WRS and ThePriceIsWight, with a view to supporting a seamless visitor experience, driving greater revenues for travel operators, local merchants and event management.

US Headquartered turn-around, NCR Voyix, retains Greenings to drive Transformation of Japanese market – Professional Services, Finance & Product, Tokyo
A long-standing 15-year relationship with Darren Wilson (President International – NCRV), recently joining his former colleagues from EVO/Global Payments, has led to Greenings making multiple strategic placements for NCR Voyix in Tokyo and London. Our placements will help with the transformation of the Tokyo office, re-aligning the business model and best practice with North American HQ, whilst reinforcing deep relationships with market leading Tokyo clientele.
Acknowledging the significant challenge of the brief; Greenings Research team, led by Jade McFadden (Atlanta), utilised our latest research tools and networks, to quickly identify relevant Japanese nationals across the US, Japan, China and Australia. All had fluent Japanese, relevant experience in Western culture Technology firms, with the willingness to relocate to Tokyo.
A seamless project, bringing together the International business President in the UK, Human Resources, Atlanta, and CEO, Japan, generating a deep slate of candidates, all placed from 1st Shortlist, plus 2 candidates taken forward as potential additional hires later in the year.

FRC Leaders’ Convention, Cotswolds 31st March and 1st April

I attended the FRC Leaders’ convention and hosted a panel on The Executive Track: Strategies for Compliance & Risk Leaders, joined by three outstanding leaders – Ian Belsham, Simon Haslam, and Roland Maessen – who have enjoyed incredibly successful careers, from early compliance roles into C-suite positions.
Some key takeaways from our discussion:
The evolution of leadership – how a risk and compliance background provides a strong foundation for navigating complexity at the highest levels.
The balance of technical and commercial skills – moving from risk mitigation to opportunity enablement.
Career journeys are rarely linear – international experience, diverse firm types, and adaptability are key accelerators for leadership growth.
Future leaders – as FinTech and regulation continue to evolve, we are likely to see more CEOs and board members emerging from risk and compliance backgrounds.
From our conversation, it is clear that risk leaders are increasingly positioned not just as protectors of the business, but as enablers of strategic growth. Their ability to balance risk intelligence with commercial vision will be a defining leadership trait in the years ahead.
The FRC Leaders convention was amazing at creating an environment where industry leaders could connect, challenge perspectives, and explore what’s next for the sector. The energy in the room was incredible, and the quality of discussion – across panels, workshops, and networking – was second to none.
