June Update 2024

As we remember the fine Spring weather at the 25th Anniversary Payments Regatta in May, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the journey we have shared together. This regatta was more than just a celebration; it was a testament to the enduring relationships and community spirit that have been the cornerstone of Greenings for a quarter of a century. Those participating made new friendships as well as re-connecting with more distant industry colleagues making considerable journeys to attend, thank you!

I am pleased to report we see cross-border market activities and personal mobility gaining new momentum. Financial crime, data security and converging platform technologies continue to drive innovation across Payments and FinTech. The resulting demand for Talent is demanding greater openness for hiring from other complementary sectors, wider geographies and with continued flexibility in the working environment.

Recent placements underline Greenings’ tenacious ability to uncover the rarest of skills and characteristics needed to support the growth and ambitions of our clients. Our Transatlantic reach continues to be a huge differentiator in the choice we can provide to clients, as demonstrated by the most recent placements below, whether based in Europe or the Americas.

Industry Hires

Sometimes it is all about timing – a desire to return the US, along with a perfect match of skills has led to Curt Hess joining Vitesse as Executive President, US. Most recently with 10X and previously Barclays in the UK, Curt brings the gravitas, regulatory and execution skills to lead the significant expansion of Vitesse into the Americas, supported by a further US$93m of investment by KKR.

Having facilitated the leadership and build of Kushki’s Sales organisation, Greenings was asked by the founders to drive a wide-ranging search across Latam and Southern Europe, resulting in the placement of Lucas Medola, as Chief Financial Officer. Formerly with PayPal, WU, HSBC across Latin America, Lucas brings deep strategic and operational experience, underpinning the next chapter of Kushki’s success story.

25th Anniversary Payments & FinTech Regatta

On 10th May, Greenings proudly hosted the Payments and FinTech Regatta, an event that has become a highlight in many of our clients’ calendars over the last 15 years. This year’s regatta was particularly notable, featuring a record 9 boats, welcoming new entrants from Monarch Asset Management, Modulr, Tribe Payments and We Fight Fraud.

Blessed with good weather and even better spirits, participants enjoyed a full day of competitive racing. The handicap system played a significant role, ensuring a level playing field and adding excitement to the standings. Teams battled it out on the water, demonstrating both skill and camaraderie, with suitable shore-based time to network in Cowes and Lymington.

The event kicked off the previous evening with the Captain’s Dinner at Bucklers Hard, featuring guest speaker, Tony Sales. Once known as the UK’s biggest fraudster, Tony now collaborates with We Fight Fraud, led by Dr Nicola Harding and chaired by Dr Mark Goldspink. His insights into the rise of fraudsters in the Payments and FinTech sectors, particularly the use of social engineering to bypass security systems, provided a thought-provoking preamble to the regatta.

With Greenings in the lead at lunchtime, the afternoon saw canny use of The Solent tides, leading to newcomers Modulr and Tribe Payments taking joint 1st place honours!

With several teams already re-signed for 2025, please let us know if you are considering participating with a team or individually for next year?

Project Nemo returns to FinTech North

On 22nd May, FinTech North hosted another of their distinguished conferences at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds, where Project Nemo was showcased for the 2nd time. Kris Foster, Co-Founder, and Alexandra Greening, Neurodiversity Lead at Project Nemo, joined Rachel England of FinTech North to emphasize neurodiversity’s importance.

Project Nemo calls for support from the FinTech industry so that other talented disabled individuals may also be given the opportunity to thrive, which in turn allows for the industry to reach new heights. The event spurred enriching discussions, with many attendees, including Leeds Trinity University, expressing keen interest in incorporating neurodiversity into their practices for future generations.

We Fight Fraud, North

Taking their unique flavour of Fraud Prevention up North for the first time, We Fight Fraud hosted their WFF North event at DiSH, Manchester on 29th May. Greater Manchester’s Digital Security Hub, and base for GCHQ, was an exciting venue for fraud experts and industry leaders to exchange their latest concerns and solutions.

Andy McDonald (previous Head of Met Police Fraud Squad, NTFIU & more…) provided the law enforcement perspective, Rebecca Hinchliffe (Barclays, Cyber Crime Analyst) gave us the lowdown on mobile malware, Angela Yore (SkyParlour, Founder & MD) featured on a panel addressing Corporate Resilience & Crisis Management, and Lars Norhild Rønning took us through Ailuna’s innovative solution for encouraging behavioural change in consumers for improved cyber and antifraud practice

Cleafy, shared insights about their wide spanning contributions to financial crime prevention in banking. Dr Nicola Harding (WFF, CEO) addressed the room, emphasising the importance of partnership in the endeavour to counter financial crime. WFF’s ingenious blend of law enforcement, lived criminal experience, industry expertise and academia shone through as attendees were equally diverse.
